Lost connection with no warning! Feel unconfident to use MME!

I ran a mapping mission today in an area with some topography and used the Adjust for Terrain option, the drone passed behind a hill and lost connection. There was no warning from Maps Made Easy, and I could not re-establish connection! We took a drive to the area, restarted the controller and loaded up DJI GO4, and the controller reconnected just in time for the drone to say it was returning home due to low battery. I thought Id lost it and it gives me low confidence to use the app!

Should there be a warning shown when connection is getting low with Map Pilot Pro? Is there no way to re-establish connection? Will the drone continue on its mission? Should the drone failsafe of returning to home if connection lost not kick in?

I realise we should have kept line of sight to the drone, but sometimes its hard to plan a mission and account for that, especially if using Adjust for Terrain where the drone may fly low behind a hill to keep regular height above ground.

Map Pilot Pro can't fix a loss of connection. If you put a hill between the remote and the aircraft it is going to lose the signal. It can happen without warning. There is actually a beeping sound that occurs when the signal strength gets low to let you know of the danger.

Map Pilot Pro would likely have reestablished the connection after your driving instead of DJI Go but using that app is fine too.

When using waypoint flight the aircraft will execute the waypoints until the battery is running low at which point it will return home. This is how most users would want it to operate. If you are using Virtual Stick controls the aircraft will return home when there is a loss in signal. You can force Virtual Stick controls in the settings.

If you read the article about Terrain Awareness it warns against going up and over hills for this very reason. It is the pilot's job to keep line of site with the aircraft and maintain the control signal at all times. The top of the hill might have a been a better place to launch your flight to keep this from happening.

Thanks Zane fair enough. I was showing some friends how to do it and they were less conservative than me given that it was not their drone! Unfortunately we were working in an area with extreme topography and very few roads/ tracks so getting to the high ground was impossible. Great tip on the Virtual Stick controls setting if we want it to abort if going behind a hill. In reality its really hard to assess whether the drone will dip behind a hill with terrain awareness mode in areas with extreme topography! Is there a way to check our mission plans in 3D mode in google earth to see if this is likely? I might even play around building a tool in Cesium js to check line of sight from takeoff to all parts of a mission plan if its possible to export them with the proposed heights. Thanks again for a great product!!
