The iPad mini 2 was marginal at best when Map Pilot was released. In the intervening time the CPU requirements for the DJI SDK and the iOS versions have grown more and more.
We have addressed some of these issues elsewhere on in the support forums.
What is likely going on here is that iOS11 takes up more CPU in the background that iOS10 did. This is Apple's not so subtle way of getting you to buy more stuff!

Also, make you are updated to 2.7.0 and make sure the setting to clean up the image dots is on. That will help keep the CPU use to a minimum.
