Air 2S spinning (...continued)
Hi there! I've noticed other posts with similar issues (Air 2S carrying out the mission spinning on its own axis). This has been happening to me for quite some time, especially when I have to swap batteries mid-mission (it really sucks). It can also happen at the start of a mission, but I usually just do a quick reboot or change a flight setting and resend it to the drone, which usually works. Any idea how to prevent it?

Hi Zane, how are you?
If you sort my flights by the number of pictures taken, you will find all the flights I had this issue since I've got the drone. Here one example: https://www.mapsmadeeasy.com/map_pilot/flights/detail/77D038C0-C0B7-4D42-93AE-B0EA7FC694D8/
The other post I've mention that reported similar behaviour is https://support.dronesmadeeasy.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/28499447810580-Air-2S-Spinning
Cheers,
Leandro
Thank you for that. We are looking into the issue. One thing to try: have the aircraft oriented towards the direction it will be flying when it takes off to see if it is just an initial adjustment issue. That is actually handled by the aircraft itself though.
I'm having the same issue!! Although I wasn't able to get the project done. I even created a new flight plan and it did the same thing on that flight plan. It would just go up and hover.
Gary: It looks like your issue is a different issue. Please try to follow the guidance provided in my previous post. Also, check that you can actually fly in the full airspace using the DJI app to make sure you are signed in properly and there are no other limitations in place.
I tried two different days and had the same issue as I stated. It was uncontrolled airspace and I was able to get photos from the same drone during the same power up. It just wouldn’t start the ortho, just go up and hover. Thanks for your response.
Was there anything weird about where you were taking off? Please take off from a clear dirt surface. Taking off from a car roof or concrete surface that can have metal in it will cause the internal compass to have irregular readings which can cause unwanted behaviors.
Have you had a chance to try orienting the aircraft towards the direction it is going to fly at takeoff and giving it a bit more time from takeoff in order to make sure the GPS fix is solid?
Also, do a quick manual flight using the DJI app before landing and closing the DJI app before opening Map Pilot Pro. This should also help to make sure things are OK with the aircraft first.
Hi Zane,
I usually take off near my car, but never directly from the top of it. In any case, the takeoff distance remains the same for flights regardless of whether this issue occurs.
I experienced the problem again this weekend ( the fist flight of the mission https://www.mapsmadeeasy.com/map_pilot/missions/detail/5C7CD6BD-C957-4A34-92B5-7FF5CBE98C8B/) . This time, I tried pointing the drone back toward the starting point, and it worked. However, I can’t guarantee that was the fix, as I also restarted the app and resent the command—which is what usually resolves the issue.
Lots of surfaces like concrete will have metal in it. The point is to make sure that the takeoff area is free from magnetic interference which will give the heading reading of the aircraft a discontinuity as it takes off.
Also, allowing the GPS home position to settle by giving it plenty of time after powering up at a new location will keep there from being a big distance (a few meters) difference too.
Based on the log files these appear to be two sources of the extra yaw inputs.
Thanks for the tips, Zane. Since we are operating in a coffee plantation, we don't expect any magnetic interference; the only metal nearby is our jeep. I will make sure to allow more time for the drone to stabilize its position and heading before takeoff. I'll keep you posted on whether this resolves the issue.
