Roof area measurements

When measuring a roof, if I take the perimeter length and width from the ground I get an area.  Because of the roofs slope/pitch, I then have to you a conversion scale to adjust for the actual area of the roof.  I mapsmade easy, when I use the polygon measuring tool, do I get the actual area of the outlined portion of the roof  or do I need to adjust for the slope?

Our web map measurements are only made in the X and Y axes. Height is not taken into account. For calculating the area of a pitched roof from our flat area measurement you can use the following equation to get close:

Area Pitched = Area Flat/cos(Pitch)
