units of imported DEM

I'm trying to calculate stockpile volume in QGIS with an ortho MME processed. When I go into the properties window of the DEM it tells me the units are degrees. Why is this not meters? I believe this is why my calculations are not coming out right.

The outputs we create are georeferenced to EPSG:4326. You would have to project it to whatever local coordinate system you would like to use in order to operate in meters.
