Terrain Awareness - 3rd party data

We reviewed the article "Terrain Awareness", and sorry if we missed it, but is there a mechanism to load 3rd party terrain data?

This would be extremely useful and essential in some cases in order to (1) utilize terrain data of greater resolution than SRTM, as some DSM sources provide 5m resolution, and also (2) utilize terrain data from north of 60N, which is not part of SRTM.

There is not currently a mechanism for loading 3rd party data. We use the SRTM data both because it is the most universal but it also has good licensing terms that allow derivative products and caching (some private sources don't).

We heavily process the data put it in a format that optimized for mobile use.

We have added and patched data with user supplied data but have limited it to 30 m pixels so far. This is generally done for a one time charge.

We may allow the use of Maps Made Easy created DEMs in the future.

Thank Zane. It would be awesome to download a GeoTiff DSM to my mobile device from iCloud and then use it as a terrain baseline.

We won't likely be modifying the system to work like that since there is a lot of preprocessing to get the data into a compatible state. We are already creating compatible elevation data with every DEM that is processed in Maps Made Easy with 4 inch/pixel resolution. We may offer that as an option at some point but not arbitrary DEM use.

I would be interested in this feature even at 30m or larger interval. I do a lot of work on mine sites and there are places that vary up to 300 feet from SRTM.
