I just paid the $50 for the business version of the app to run on my Ipad Mini 4. i created a flight plan and saved it.. When i tried to upload it I got the dialog asking do I want to adjust for contours... The Yes/No/Cancel buttons would not work... It would just hang here and then terminate.. This happened multiple times. I do NOT have any other apps running. I am using a Mavic Pro
After about 8 tries, it uploaded and started the mission... But the icon did not update on the map to show current position and it didn't take ANY pictures but flew the course.
I unloaded this app and ran the Pix4D app and that worked fine first time and got the shots...
What's the issue with the pilot app? $50 is a lot and it should work without constantly crashing....

The Mini 4 is the dead minimum Map Pilot will run on these days and you can only do the most basic stuff without there being issues.
Make sure it is updated to iOS 12.

A relatively new or high powered device will likely still work with iOS 11 but Apple addressed a bunch of things as part of "battery-gate" in iOS 12. Older devices will need to be updated.
