Large area mission zig zag flight line errors

I'm getting these weird zig zag flight lines when I plan large flight missions. (see image below)

I'm using Map Pilot Pro 5.3.0 build 011320221

This is a bug that happens when you are trying to fly missions that are too big for the battery. If there are parts of the layout that are further away than the aircraft can fly on a battery and make it back safely the layout will fail.

Since you can't safely reach all of the locations in the survey area from your takeoff location you will need to break it up into at least two different survey areas and set up a different takeoff location for each.

This is a new glitch in "Map Pilot Pro". The old "Map Pilot" did not have this problem (except it did 6 years ago when I started using it but they fixed it).  I will gladly pay the $150/yr for "Pro", but it has to work as good as the old version.  Missions that are too big for one battery is the definition of a multi-battery mission. And launching from the center of this rectangle is well within a Phantom's range and line-of-sight.

Will they be fixing it? I fly large areas and rely on the multi-battery missions for most jobs. I have trained all the surveyors in my company to use Map Pilot. We have 25 pilots in 10 states. We love Map Pilot!  Please try to fix this. - Thanks.

We will look into what is going on here and fix it. This appears to happen in very large areas that the passes are longer than about 2km.

It is hard to tell how big this area is. In general, the maximum distance away that you can fly in this case would be 600 seconds (10 minutes) at 15 m/s, or 9km (ignoring ascent and descent). The total time takes ascent and decent times into account as well. Since you are flying pretty high these are not negligible. Figure 1 minute for ascent and decent and you are down to 8km per flight. If the green dot plus the distance to the end of the pass is more than that length it will likely cause problems.

Good to know. Thanks.

The rectangle is 1.6 km wide x 2.0 km North-South. The distance from takeoff point to the farthest corner is only 1.44 km.

This issue has been fixed for version 5.3.1. It has already been approved by Apple for the App Store release. It will likely be released tomorrow morning.
