Map Pilot Pro Camera settings

Since moving to Map Pilot Pro from Map Pilot two months ago I have had continual image focus problems.  Ensured that I have set the camera to auto focus but that does not help.  I have now shot the same flight plan in both versions of the App and the autofocus is much better in the old version the way that I have things set.  What am I doing wrong?

I am not sure what "inherit camera settings" means in the settings/flight camera controls does but I have had it set to off.  Could this be my issue?

I am flying a Mavic Pro.

I've encountered exactly the same problem. Shot the same survey with both Map Pilot Pro and the old app Map Pilot. The images from Map Pilot Pro came out all blurred while the those shot using Map Pilot are fine. Other than enabling the "inherit camera settings", which is off by default, are there any other tricks to reset the focus in flight (I can see the blurriness by following the video feed). I am on the base level plan, so don't have access to the manual focus. I am also flying a Mavic Pro.

Zane, thanks for the article.  I now understand the various options much better.  However, non of the options available appear to work as well as your old Map pilot App for the Mavic Pro.  Is there something different in the way that the camera is set up in the two Apps.  I often fly missions at relatively low heights (30 to 40 m) with targets such as buildings and trees that range from 5m above ground to 25m. Details is really important to my customers. So, I thought that the "inherit" option would work but I have tried that this morning and it still gives me focus issues.  I hope you do not mind but I have sent two examples to your email address (1 old 1 inherit).  Any help would be much appreciated because I obviously want to move to your new App but cannot get the results at the moment.

We are not saying you should use the Inherit setting. That is for users that really want to set the focus using another app before using the settings with Map Pilot Pro.

The problem here is that if you had a pro subscription before there was some ambiguity as to when this occurred. The ambiguity was fixed in 5.0.7 and we added the Inherit setting to make it more obvious when this was or was not occurring.

To do things like it was before in the older versions of Map Pilot we recommend NOT using the Inherit setting (which is off by default) and then make sure you are in the Autofocus mode.

It is still totally possible for the Autofocus to fail or pull a bad value depending on what it was looking at at the time it was calculated. If you suspect this is the case and the focus is visibly bad, pause the flight and double tap on the camera preview in a contrasty area on the ground. This will make the camera pull a new autofocus solution on that spot.

Another cause for what you could be seeing is that you are flying pretty low. If you pull an autofocus on the ground and are flying at 25 meters and then are looking at a roof that is 15 meters tall it isn't going to be in focus at all.

Zane, thanks for all of the advice and the comment re flying low.  I note what you say re focus and low flight but you will have observed from the two photos that I sent to you yesterday that the autofocus does work very well with the old App no matter what height I fly the mission.  Your software is only of use to me (well, my clients) if I can fly low and get close up and in focus pictures.
