Hey Archon,
Unless you have a specific need for .dng imagery, you want to use .jpg.
When you convert to jpg, you need to be very sure that the gps coordinates are also included in the files.
Hey DME.
Ive recently upgraded to the 2019 IPAD Mini and installed the Business version of the Mappilot. Ive done a survey and the images provided were only DNG not JPG. Under setting RAW Image was ticked. This might have been my mistake, but when i converted the DNG to JPG in Photoshop and error came up in MME when i tried to import the JPG and wont let me create a map. It states the map processing will most likely fail do you want to continue but i cant continue from there.

It is kind of hard to do that by accident. The fact the the aircraft was flying SUPER slowly should have tipped you off!
Do a free test set to see how it turns out. Getting the tags right is hard but possible. Certain things in the tags HAVE to be there. Others are optional. Photoshop usually gets the basic right.
Can you recommend software that converts the DNG to JPG while keeping the information in the tags? I have been doing low level flights and using the DNG files in 3D Zephyr and they come out really nice. I tried a program called RawTherapee but had no luck. Thanks,
Here is some DNG conversion feedback from another customer:
"I found a site that did the conversion from dng to jpeg. It’s convertio.co . Was pretty fast . I recommend doing batches of 30 max at a time . Any more than that it gets hung up. It only took about 1 minute max for each batch of 30 images which is pretty good. Hope it helps anyone in the same predicament as I was in."
It did a good job of keeping all the EXIF and XMP tag data.
I use AEB x3 to create my photos and merge them in Lightroom. When I try to export jpgs and include all metadata, they error out in MME. Anyone have any tips/tricks to make it possible to use these exported jpgs? My camera is decent (E2P) but I like the HDR files more than jpgs straight out of the camera.
Send us a sample image and we can tell you what is going wrong with it.
It should be working in the Classic workflow as long as you have all of the most basic tags in there. The DJI Workflow relies on the XMP data being intact.
Zane, THANKS!
How do I send you a sample image?
Zane, thanks again. I tried again and it worked. I must have just stopped at the warning that it probably wouldn't work. I went past that this time and it created the files.
Appreciate the help.
Hi Zane,
I tried Convertio and had no luck with the DJI workflow but was able to use the Classic Workflow, but the only issue with that is I have signed up for the yearly subscription of MPP and it looks like only the DJI workflow has the discounts. I am still trying to figure out if I can get them to work our of Raw Therapee but I may need to get a subscription to Photoshop as well. I was also wondering if there is the ability to fly at lower elevations. I am able to fly at 30' with ESRI Site Scan and 30/16' respectively with Pix4D Capture with Mavic2Pro/Parrot. These low altitude flights get really great results in 3DZephyr with DNG images, but I also like the flexibility of having the JPG. I want to just use one Pilot app if possible and MapPilot has always been my favorite. Thanks!
You should be able to fly as low as 5 meters using Map Pilot Pro with the Maps Made Easy Pro-level subscription.
Thanks Zane! I will try the 5m elevation.
