Unexpected mapping accuracy

I just completed a large (760 or so photos) field map. I had stripped the takeoff photo because I'm a newbie and didn't understand what it was for. I did not include any GCPs or do georeferencing online. That said, alignment of the map with the basemap is just about perfect. That can't be due to the accuracy of my DJI drone tags so how is such good overlap achieved. I've done two other maps of smaller fields where the accuracy was much poorer. Why the difference? Sorry for the dumb question but it will help me improve.

Sometimes the consumer grade GPS gets a good fix, sometimes it doesn't. The spec is within 10 meters. Sometimes it is way less than that and sometimes it is right on. This is why we offer the realignment process.

Using 80% overlap and following the Data Collection guidelines carefully goes a long way.

The Ground Reference image is taken so we can use the barometric altimeter readings instead of the GPS derived elevation. It doesn't change the model but it makes the elevation values more accurate.

You can read more about that here:

You have a bit too much overlap. The black areas in your Overlap Report represent places with over 50X coverage. That is too much and is why it took longer to process than usual. The recommendation is 25-30X coverage unless there is a specific need for more.

Thanks for the reply. The excessive overlap was because I merged photos from two separate missions into one process. It all stemmed from my initial assumption that multi-battery missions were not working correctly. Now that I know better, overlap will be much more normal. And, of course, I'll stop stripping the takeoff photos now that I know what they're for. We're a tiny wildlife trust in the UK and operating on a shoestring budget with a bunch of old coots like me (78) punching above our weight. This mapping service is going to be a great help. Thanks for your assistance. Now back to my studies of georeferencing.
