A brief history request

Hello

I'm currently making a essay based off of programs that help digital cartographers as homework, and i was assigned to base it around this program. 

The thing is they requested me to precent how the program/company was made; the reasoning and events that lead up to it.

I'd appreciate a summary of how and why Maps made easy was created.
