Finished map has smear line

Aloha Maps Made Easy,

My most recent map came back with a smear through one section.  I sent the photos in again (DJI workflow) and again the same smear.  I checked the original photos of the area, and it looks perfect.  It was about 3pm HST when the photos were taken.

It looks like the model was slightly rotated before it was textured. You can see that all vertical edges are showing slightly to the east.

This can happen in uneven terrain when there are a lot of trees around the edges of the area and you are using a camera that doesn't provide all of the pointing tags (Mini 2). You can try to address this by including more untreed areas in your dataset.

Also, using Terrain Awareness in your data collection can help to keep this from happening. 80% overlap and Terrain Awareness would probably have been the ideal setting here.

The smear is located in the center.  My overlap was 89/91, which is about the standard I have been using.  I have made so many maps with you!  This is the first time I ever had an issue....

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Zane.  This is actually the second flight and map of this area.  My first map of the exact same trees and area came out fine (made with you in October of 2023).  What is this "terrain awareness"?  On the Map Pilot I only see the overlap for Along and Across Track.  I have made many many maps with you (trees, no trees, combination etc.) using the Mini 2.  I have never had a smear in the final product.  What does “the model was slightly rotated before it was textured” mean?

Thanks,

Rebecca

The trees around the edges are making it so the system doesn't know exactly which way is down. You can see the streaks where it was slightly rotated and then textured. This really only happens on treed slopes are times when there is a tall structure right on the edge of a map.
