Elevation awareness

I was wondering if you have plans to have and elevation awareness added to ‘maps made easy’ for when mapping certain terrain as if we launched from a low spot to have the unit be able to follow the terrain and adjust accordingly with height adjustments along the flight path, look forward to hearing from you soon.

We will be releasing a terrain awareness feature soon-ish. There is a lot that goes into doing this and we are working on the steps to be able to provide it.

It will be fully offline capable like our basemap caching and will allow for terrain data storage for designing terrain aware flights in the field.

We also have a feature that is coming out in the next version that will allow the ground level of the terrain to be mapped to be manually adjust for the case where you are taking off at a low point and mapping up on a plateau.

Interesting, I had the same problem today on hilly land, I set the height to 120m but still need to be very careful when flight planning to avoid flying into hill!. I think maybe worth using contour lines on a map to plan the flight to avoid survey of land >120m above the launch point?

The terrain awareness feature uses NASA collected data to give the offline elevation data. Using this feature will allow you to make flights that follow the terrain +- 5% or so. You cannot adjust the flight altitude manually as it is all done from the NASA data.
