KMZ files and compatability

Im using a google chromebook for a lot of my mapping. I'm getting a response that the file type is not supported.  Does this need to be opened on a PC?  Also, visiting with the IT department I work for, they tell me that they're unfamiliar with KMZ files, but support KML in order to upload as a layer in our Ag Software.

The KMZ we create is a 250k face georeferenced 3D model. KMLs are usually just lines and shapes with some other info sometimes.

We are not sure about how things work on a Chromebook. Our KMZs do work with normal computers and on some of mobile Google Earth versions.

There have been a few other topics about getting them to load and adjusting the altitude. Please search for "kmz" up in the search area for more topics.

You can also now use Google Earth Pro for free which makes handling the GeoTiff in Google Earth possible:
