Continuation of Mapping using 2nd Battery

Hi,

I just came back from doing a new map with the new App which was released this morning. It was a big island but by adjusting the grids, I managed to get the time down to less than 19 minutes and 1 battery. However, after takeoff the app would not upload the mission as it was at a height above my limit previously set in the DJI app (45m), so I had to redo the height while the Phantom hovered. I dropped it down to 40m, then uploaded and started the mission. It flew it well, but I could see that I was not going to get the mission done on one battery even though the app said it would. I decided to abort when the battery level hit 32%. I pressed, STOP, then the RTH on the MME app. The drone came back, missed the home point by about 2 meters and I took over and landed. I turned the drone off, replaced the battery, waited for the green lights and took off again. I uploaded the mission once more since that part of the checklist was white and then hit start, because again, that part was white. The drone went off to where it last took photos. I watched it pick up the line and then it started dropping the grey circles, but I also noticed that the STOP button was not in the top right hand corner, only the RESUME button was there, but the drone was resuming its mission perfectly from what I saw. So I pressed RESUME, the drone kept flying but the RESUME now turned into the normal STOP icon.

In the end, all looked fine, the drone finished, came home, missed the home point by about 2 metres, so I took over and landed it. When I got home I checked my screen grab and there was supposed to be 482 images, but after checking the photos I'm missing about 75. So I wonder if the drone was really taking photos like it said it was or not. Also, the software said it was only going to take 1 battery, but that wasn't close.

Again, just a FYI. I'm having fun testing this system out. Tomorrow morning I'm going to head up to some forested areas and try some more maps on some forested hills. I have a zip line customer who wants his lines photographed, but I'm not sure what settings I should use.

Below is a map I did of another island last week and it came out perfectly. This was the old app. Not only was the map perfect, but so was the timing. From takeoff to autoland it was within 10 seconds of what it predicted. The only thing that changed was that after takeoff the mission time decreased in the bottom right had corner and eventually was quite a bit less than the time left on the battery so I continued.

Paul,
There are a lot of factors that come into play on estimating the distance. If you have the "Battery Limited" setting selected, it assumes a 25 minute flight since that is a little more than the maximum we have ever seen it fly. If you have a smaller (TB47) or older battery, you will get less and we have no way to tell that. Battery Limited means we give it more than it can handle and it comes back when it has to. If you want the battery numbers to be really accurate, you should select a battery timer that you know your batteries can cover.

Thanks for the very detailed description on the Stop button state after coming home. Easy fix, but important.

It is surprising to hear that you were missing images since you were flying so low and slow. Were you keeping an eye on the signal strength indicator and keeping the remote pointed at the aircraft? That can cause gaps. But generally, if we count it, it got triggered successfully. Please let us know what job this is was when you post it so we can check for holes.

Thanks for the great feedback.
