3d output limitations

What is the reason behind limiting the 3d outputs to 1000megapixels?
I just mapped a large area that I had to break into 4 parts so that I could generate DEM to then extract contours in QGIS but the images do not line up very well and so the contours are out.
Any chance this situation will change soon? Wasted a few points on that experiment.

Processing the Full 3D takes an extremely high amount of RAM to do so. At best, it is four times as much memory as the the normal, 2.5D processing.

We are upping it slowly because this high memory requirement significantly affects our job scheduling and prioritization.

We still are not totally sure that we are going to keep the feature because people have been unhappy with the results mostly due to improper data collection for it. Nadir images will not do a good job. It works well if it you do it right, but until we make an app to fly properly, people will keep messing it up...

Thanks Tudor,
Is it possible to process the DEM separately to the 3d files? The DEM seems to work well for me.

I certainly like the DEM model. I realize that it is imperfect, but I like what I get.

The DEM can be processed by all sorts GIS softwares. Look up GDAL tools. If you are interested in 3D however, dealing with the OBJ files will probably work better since they are textured.
