Mini 3 pro / 48M pixel Photo

Hello,

I'd like to know how I can set the camera definition on 48 Million pixel instead of 12 M.

Thanks

Regards

There is no way to do that in Map Pilot Pro. The 48 megapixel images are not really useful for mapping since they aren't real pixels. They with the huge files they are really expensive to process for no real benefit.

Sorry Zene, but that doesn't make any sense. The Mini 3 Pro's sensor is 48mpx, and by hardware it is converted to 12mpx. This is noticeable by the compression in the vegetation, there is clearly a downgrade to 12mpx native on the Mini 3 Pro.
With 48mpx we wouldn't have this compression, gaining definition, and we could increase the flight altitude, reducing the number of images captured. Review your opinion on the subject.

It is a tradeoff between a bad 48 megapixels and or a good 12 megapixels. It comes down to sensor size which drives pixel size. With smaller amounts of light being collected in each pixel it runs much closer to the sensor's signal to noise ratio and gives a noisier image. Noise is bad. At 12 MP it is at least reasonable. Binning by 2 has been common practice to overcome noisy sensors for decades. Yes, you have to fly lower to get equivalent GSD but the results were going to be bad with the noisier data anyway. We don't want to help people collect bad data.

Zane, in practice I get the opposite. Doing manual missions using DJI Fly I have noticed a huge definition in the vegetation at 48mpx, but at 12 the vegetation looks extremely strange, due to the compression algorithm transforming it into an "oil painting". The mini 3 pro compression algorithm is terrible. If the sensor were 12mpx it wouldn't be so bad, but as the image is being compressed from 48 to 12, the quality drops extremely. Leave it to the user to do the compression, if they want.
In fact, I was testing the application thinking that it would take photographs in 48mpx.

Interesting to hear. It sounds like DJI could definitely be doing a better job there. Post some samples if you have them.

For every aircraft we set the photo mode to PHOTO_NORMAL so even using the 'Inherit Camera Settings' option won't fix this.

We do not currently have any plans to support the PHOTO_HIGH_RESOLUTION mode. Most people that care that much about the quality of their AG imagery will use a more applicable aircraft.
