Drone Selection

I'm looking for recommendations on a drone in the sub-$1000 dollar range that can still be used for some decent mapping and photog/video results. Quick Google'n has shown me these 3 in my price range, any others I should consider? Anyone using these?

Phantom 3

DJI Mavic Pro

Yuneec USA Q5004k

Phantom 3 Pro is the best options out of these.

The Phantom 4 can be gotten pretty near this price range now and is a better option.

Despite our love for it, we don't generally recommend the Mavic for any kind of serious mapping.

Yuneec aircraft have a lot of issues when it comes to mapping and we have seen very little success with their use. We do not recommend purchasing them.

How about the Mavic 2 Pro (or Zoom)? Does the above comment in 2017 about not recommending the Mavic also/still apply to Mavic 2 Pro?

Between the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom, would the Pro be the better choice for mapping due to its larger sensor (better image quality?) and higher pixel count/resolution?

Or if the Mavic 2 is still not recommended for "serious" mapping, what would be a more recommended drone to get at its price point ($1,500) or less?

The Mavic 2 Pro is a lot better than the original Mavic. It has some firmware issues that are not currently marking the elevation data properly but hopefully that will be resolved soon. As long as you upload a ground reference image with the data Maps Made Easy can handle the bad tags.

At this point we recommend the Phantom 4 Pro due to the lack of these issues. We don't have enough time on the Mavic 2 Pro yet but it will likely be to the go-to in the future.
