Camera Busy Error - Drone Not taking Photos regularly -Phantom 3 Pro

Hi

I was using the latest Maps made easy version on my Phantom 3 Professional. I was using a strontium 32GB U1 class SD card. The corresponding setting on maps made easy was enabled. The mission was planned about 500m from home. The app after taking about 150 photos ( about 75% of the mission) gave an error message saying ' Camera Busy - You might need a slower SD card'. There were no photos taken after this point.

Next, I repeated the test overhead and i found the same error appear again twice. There were no photos taken for a short while soon after the message appeared.

I flew a couple more flights and enabled the debug window, I found this error message  - DJISDKCameraError 3002.

I tried using another SD card and with different Sd card write speed settings, nothing worked. I can send the csv logs if required.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The ends of passes will occasionally have two images very close to each other but the majority of them should be spaced at least 2 seconds (or the SD Card Speed setting) apart.

We will look into the signal strength issue. It has been reported by another user as well.

What firmware version are you using? Our dev aircraft show the signal strength changing.

I had a look at the csv log and found that at times there is a command to take a photo within 0.7 seconds of each other. Surely this is too fast for any SD card. The command to take the photo is generated by the app in the device. Why is this issue happening? If that's the case, isn't it better to fly in connection-less mode?

Also, I noticed one more thing - This is a major issue: I checked the signal strength in the app - It always shows 100%. I highly suspected that. So, I checked it against DJI GO and found that maps made easy shows 100% at all times!. This is huge issue as I cannot make good judgement on the signal strength through this app.

Also, that slow SD card setting should not be getting showed on a regular basis. If it is, you may need to use a slower SD card setting. The occasional pair of quick images shouldn't be enough to cause a buffer issue.

I'm using the latest firmware on everything -

Phantom 3 Pro - 1.10.9

Remote - 1.8.0

The app was also the latest  - 2.4.4 build 03022017

Zane,

I did a couple more tests yesterday. I used a new Sandisk UHS 3 SD card, and tested the app with all the three settings in active connect mode. The same error popped up several times in all the flights. The spacing between photos was irregular. From the app, I could see that the images were not being taken regularly. This would defeat the purpose of using the app as I get uneven and incorrect overlaps between images which cannot be used for my application. I also noticed that the view from the camera in maps made easy was laggy.

I even tried the conectionless mode. It seemed promising at first, but ended up having the same spacing issue. I tried various settings, reformatting the SD card, reducing the speed of the drone. Nothing gave me a good result.

I tested again using other mapping apps and they worked fine. The images were regular and there were no issues with the card or the camera.

I have tried everything I could and the issue is persisting. I would love to get this problem fixed as soon as possible. I like all the features and flexibility that maps made easy provides. But reliability of using the app takes priority and I'd love if this gets fixed soon.

We have found that there are slow cameras. If the camera cannot sustainably record images at the required rate then it won't be able to collect good mapping data.

Did you turning the SD Card Speed down to 2.5 or 3 seconds in the settings to allow for more time.

Also, Map Pilot is quite processor intensive. If you are using an older iOS device it is possible your device can't keep up and may either need to close all other apps or upgrade to a newer device.

Yes. I have tried using all the SD card speed settings - 2, 2.5, and 3 secs with different SD cards of  different ratings(UHS1 and UHS3). The issue was present in all the three modes.

I used an Ipad with the latest iOS, no other apps were running in the background at the time. The problem was still present in the connection-less mode, which shouldn't be the case.

To see if the camera was the issue, I had repeated the tests with another newer phantom 3 Pro, the issue was still present.

I had similar issues with my ipad mini 2 and v2.4.4. App kept saying there was a camera card issue i.e. waiting for camera, but I know this wasn't the case as saved photos fine at same interval with simulator and even changing to up to 3 seconds (Class 10) in app, camera error kept randomly appearing, though seemed to be no pattern to when or how often.  This was also with the fastest Sandisk U3 card (both 64 and 32 GB tried and formatted in my P4P).  Changing to ipad air 2 stopped this error occuring  - with same iOS and map pilot app, so it appears this was (at least for me) the older Ipad 2 mini not being fast enough to cope with the app demands.  Using simulator mode could not recreate this issue, it was only when actually flying - hence knowing not an actual SD card speed problem.  Still some further testing to perform to be certain of, but based on my troubleshooting so far appears the performance of the tablet was the issue, as has been suggested here. Checking logs on healthydrones also showed some intermittent data "connection" failures in real flight, which might possibly be a result of performance issues if the tablet could not cope with the data comms - MME support could this be one symptom of insufficient resources on the tablet?

Updating the app, however, to 2.45 has introduced an FPV issue with my Inspire, but the SD errors aren't intrusive anymore, so a bit of an improvement if you are still getting these, and can increase photo delay to above 3s.

Were the tablets of same spec out of interest you tested on?

Alex,

Thanks for your input.  I was using an Ipad mini 2. I haven't tested with another device yet. But I did test the connectionless mode which should work fine for any device, but showed the same errors when I saw the regularity of the photos taken.

I haven't tested the new 2.4.5 app yet.
