Request to increase the maximum speed when setting X5 camera.

With the X5 camera Overlap 90/60 & 1 cm / px setting maximum speed is 0.9 m / s and it is very slow.
Like the X5S camera, please improve it to be the maximum speed of 2.0 m / s or more.

The limit of the X5 for periodic imaging is 5 seconds. We were trying to cheat it before but too many users were having issues with it. DJI says it images at 1 image per 5 seconds and that is what it now does.

We tried to jump through all sorts of hoops before since there weren't any other options but with the X5S and Inspire 2 supporting imaging down to 2 seconds and higher resolution it is the option that should be used if you need to fly fast.

We will not be offering faster imaging with the X5 since it would exceed DJI's published limits.

kind of strange coincidence...

The 5 second limit has been there since it was released. We too saw that it could go faster and tried to make it work. While it worked for some people it made it unusable for others and caused internal image writing issues and file corruption. Bad stuff.

With the DJI GO application, it is possible to set a timer interval of 2 seconds apart.
Does it become NG in SDI?
Please be sure to be able to shoot even at 2 second intervals. It will become an unusable application.

Hello!

Maro is right. Look at the screen shot. Is DJI cheating DJI?
I took 500 photos this morning without prob at 2 sec interval. Please, put it back to a faster speed. I paid for your app months ago according to previous X5 speed. Can't you put it back with a king of warning like ''fly full speed at your risk''? Let ME chose the speed please.

There are plenty of things that DJI Go can do that are not available to developers... We could potentially trigger the camera as fast as we want. The issue is whether or not the camera can actually support it and write the files out reliably. We have found it to be unreliable below 5 seconds and will not longer be supporting it.

From the DJI SDK Documentation:

The time interval during which two photos are taken. The range for this parameter depends on the photo file format (DJICameraPhotoFileFormat). For X5 and X5R, the range is [5, 2^16 - 1] seconds for all formats. For XT, the range is [1, 60] seconds for all formats. For X4S, X5S and Phantom 4 Pro, when the file format is JPEG, the range is [2, 2^16 - 1] seconds; when the file format is RAW or RAW+JPEG, the range is [5, 2^16 - 1] seconds. For other products, when the file format is JPEG, the range is [2, 2^16 - 1] seconds; when the file format is RAW or RAW+JPEG, the range is [10, 2^16 - 1] seconds.

ok then...

So when will we fly the Matrice 200??? apparently, that will be an appropriate drone for surveyors. What do you think about it?

Will we be able to fly fast?

cheers

Map Pilot will support the M200 before you get it. We think it will be a great platform for mapping. The Inspire 2 with X5S is also a great platform. The X5S camera can trigger at 2 seconds unlike the X5.

Maximum flight speed will likely still remain at 15 m/s for programmed flight.

I'm confused because the 2.3.0 update from Dec 30 states: "Default X5 framing rate up to 2 seconds - honors the setting value"

Has it since been increased to 5 seconds? (which would make the Inspire Pro essentially unusable for most photogrammetry jobs).  Please note that I used another, less optimal SDK app last summer to perform numerous successful X5 surveys using a 2 second interval and infinity focus.  I'm just about to start up my X5 surveying for this year and was excited to see the new 2 second interval change to Map Pilot.  Is there any way that a hidden 2 second setting could be reinstated for connectionless mapping for those users who have found this interval to be reliable?

Thanks,

Rob

We upped the imaging speed in that previous release due to requests from a few users, such as yourself, but after doing so we received way more support requests from people that were experiencing issues with the faster speed.

If the faster imaging worked for you that is great. It didn't work for others and was causing large and hard to support issues.

The X5 was never really a great option for mapping as it was poorly supported by DJI, had really short battery life and was slow. The Inspire 2 and X5S camera are a much more viable option for mapping and we are placing our efforts there instead of trying to force things.

Agreed photogrammetry has been rendered almost useless for Inspire 1. Here's a workaround: Set your altitude for double what you plan to, then use the offset feature and lower the full allowable 50%. You'll be at the same altitude you planned and You might get as fast as 3.8 m/s.
