Map Cache/Route reload

My work involves small area surveys (Churchyards) of just a few acres.  When I save then re-load map / route caches I cannot expand the map tile outside a limited screen area as then the map disappears only leaving the route.  If I do not expand the map tile the route is very small and difficult to see the detail.  I guess this is a 'feature' which needs to be fixed in a future release unless someone knows of a work around.

Thanks,

Richard

The basemaps that get saved when caching a map are limited to the amount of detail that is available. For very small missions there may only be a couple of map tiles available. There is a limit to how far in you can zoom and have it show up properly so you will have to zoom out a bit to have the basemap show properly. There is no additional detail available for download so no extra detail will be shown.

Thanks for the reply Zane but I must be missing something here as I don't understand why I can zoom in perfectly well before I save the mission but not after the mission is re-loaded.

When you initially save the mission you are likely on the stock Apple Maps. After you load the saved mission you are viewing map tiles that are provided by a different company since Apple Maps cannot be saved. You can cycle through the basemap options to get back to the Apple Maps version in the Map Control pull out on the bottom left side of the main layout screen.

Ah, that explains what is happening.  I have switched mapping as you suggest and it is then indeed possible to zoom in as before.  The only issue now is that for this to work one has to have either a WiFi connection or pay for data via a SIM card in the Ipad to re-load the Apple maps.  Its a pity they cannot be saved but I appreciate that this is outside  your control.

Thanks for following this through.

The idea behind the map caching is so you have something to work with when data isn't available.
